David Fear

A former Timsbury resident who emigrated to Australia in 1974 has died in Perth at the age of 53. David Fear who attended St Mary’s Primary School Timsbury and the village Secondary Modern School worked for a while at Stothert and Pitt in Bath before leaving on what was to be a working holiday in Australia with his friend Andrew Hayward. On the ship sailing out he met his future wife Terri and ultimately settled in Perth.

Mr Fear who became manager of transport at the Department of Consumer Employment and Protection in Perth was proud of his roots and took both of his children Kelly and Stephen back to Timsbury to show them the house his father had built and where he grew up. He enjoyed recording the family history and telling stories of the family’s ancestors.

Mr Fear’s family described him as a passionate man in all he did. He loved sport and was a devoted fan of the Dockers Australian Rules Football team. He enjoyed his game of golf, cricket and travel and was always keen to try new things.

Mr Fear’s sudden death came as a great shock to his two children, his brother Tony and sister Carole who still live in England and his former wife Terri. The funeral service was held in Pinnaroo Memorial Gardens in Perth and was led by the celebrant Peter Ferguson. Some of his ashes remained in Perth but some were brought back to be interred at Haycombe Crematorium in Bath.

His sister Carole Comer who lives at High Littleton said, “ David was a wonderful brother. He was a great family man and was very proud of his children. He had a terrific sense of humour and was very laid back and yet at the same time was very organised and meticulous.”
