Outlined below are details of websites that either provide information about the history of Timsbury or indexes which may give clues for further research.


Georgian Newspaper Project Database 

This is a project to index the Bath Chronicle from 1770 to 1799. Indexing includes adverts, listings of visitors to Bath and news stories. Copies of articles can be ordered from the Local Studies Service of Bath Library for a fee. To see the index for Timsbury click on the link and type in Timsbury in the Free Text Search 1 box.

FreeBMD 

This is a free searchable index of the civil registration of births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales for the period 1837-1983. The coverage for the 19th century is very good, but transcription continues, so coverage is not complete. This link takes you to the search page, which allows you to enter a variety of details to find the record you are looking for. 

Family Search 

Free website from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the Mormon Church). Databases include the International Genealogical Index, the 1881 census for England and Wales and numerous personal family trees that have been submitted to the site. Timsbury parish records are included. 

A Vision of Timsbury 

This is part of the Vision of Britain between 1801 and 2001 website. It includes information on the population, agriculture and land use, industry and housing in Timsbury over this period. 

Somerset Records Office Archive 

This is the online catalogue of the Somerset Record Office at Taunton. Click on the link and select Online Catalogue. Type in Timsbury into the Any Text box. There are over 300 items listed. It is possible to access the summary of each item. The originals are held at the Records Office in Taunton. 

Bath in Time 

This site has photographs of Bath and its surrounding area. Type Timsbury into the search box and the result is only one photograph. Type in Somerset Coal Canal and there are over 400 items. 

Bath Central Library Local Studies Section 

The Local Studies Section has a copy of the Timsbury Parish Registers and Directories. Their website also has details of many local history websites which can be accessed in the library.

National Archives Online 

The National Archive has a Documents Online section. Type in Timsbury into the search box and a number of items, mainly wills of prominent individuals, appear. Copies of these can be ordered online.

History of St Mary’s Church 

The history page of St Mary’s Church website has information about the architecture of the church and details of some prominent families from the 19th century. 

Images of England 

Images of England is a ‘point in time’ photographic library of England’s listed buildings, recorded at the turn of the 21st century. Click on the link and type Timsbury into the search box. The items will include some from Timsbury Hampshire, but the Timsbury, Bath and N E Somerset items are clear. Each has a photograph and a brief description of its features. 

Absent Voter Lists

The were completed towards the end of World War 1 and allowed soldiers to register to vote. They provide a great deal of detail on those who served at this time.
