Timsbury used to have a far greater number of shops and services than those currently found in the village. A community project has taken place over the last few months to map and record the history of these shops and services.
A great deal of information came from the censuses and directories that can be seen in the History section of this website. But by far the greatest source of information has come from several local residents of Timsbury and others who once lived in the village. This has meant that an extensive history has been created which has identified 64 shops and services so far. Though the use of the word shop creates the impression of large front windows; many operated from a room within a residential building. The map is by no means complete. As further information becomes available, the map will be updated.
Click on The Old Shops of Timsbury to see the map. It is based on Google Earth. You will need to use the zoom facility to see the detail. Each location is shown by a marker. Each marker will have a photograph of the shop and notes about its history.
