Timsbury Theatre Group’s latest production, “Old Dogs” by Steve Raw, is on stage at the Conygre Hall from Thursday April 2 to Saturday April 4 at 7.45pm each night.
This very funny play is set in a retirement home occupied by three elderly men – Ron (Peter Buchanan), Sid (Patrick Bridges) and Eric (Alan Jenner). When the miserly proprietor Mrs Rendell (Anne Colbourne) goes on holiday, the unscheduled arrival of an attractive young woman Julie (Emily Collier) brings a series of dramatic and comic changes to the men’s lives. Other visitors appear, including Colin (Paul Toulson), a young man starting his first job. The misunderstandings come thick and fast as he gets rather more than he bargained for. Very cleverly constructed, with a mixture of gentle comedy, dramatic action and pure theatrical farce, “Old Dogs” is an intriguingly different play whose alternative title ought to be “growing old disgracefully”. Dennis Jones is directing the mayhem, and the cast is completed by Dennis Glover, Darren Baker, Beverly von Hollstein and Sharon Wilkins.
Tickets (£5 full, £4 concessions) are available from Myra Hayward on 01761 470471 or at www.thettg.org. There’s a first night offer of “buy one, get one free”. With its adult theme, it is suggested that the play is not suitable for children under 14.
