Short mat bowling is played indoors on specially made mats about half the length of lawn bowling greens. It is very similar to the original form of lawn bowling enjoyed by people over the centuries; not be confused with 10-pin bowling or skittles.

It is a challenging and thoroughly enjoyable sport for persons of all ages and of both sexes, as it is a game of skill, gender is not a factor.

To compensate for any advantage that might occur playing over a shorter distance, players have to avoid a wooden block placed in the middle of the mat when delivering their bowls.

Short mat bowling is quite informal and does not have a dress code for club sessions.

Like most sports, bowls clubs usually  play in leagues, thus there are many opportunities to travel to play other clubs, and there are various other fixtures and competitions in which members can take part.
Timsbury Short Mat Bowls Club is very friendly and has a developing social side.

New members are always welcome.

Come along just before the start of any of the regular bowling sessions listed below when you will be invited to join in and play a few ends. If you haven’t played before do not worry, we all had to start somewhere, members will only be too willing and able to guide you through the initial stages.

Alternatively contact the secretary, Anne Dobson who will tell you all you need to know.
