Young Cricketer

18 year old Timsbury cricketer Callum Stewart had to forego his recent league game for the club’s second eleven to accept a prestigious footballing award…

After captaining the English Independent Schools football team he was chosen as the player of the year . Stewart who attended Millfield School accepted the award from former England rugby boss Sir Clive Woodward at a special presentation ceremony during Millfield’s Parents Day at the school.

Callum was captain of an outstandingly successful Millfield team which finished as runners-up in the Boodles ISFA Cup and won the English Schools FA U18 Trophy. The school described him as

“an outstanding captain, probably the best Millfield has ever had”

and said that he impressed his coaches at both school and representative level for his exemplary attitude both on and off the pitch.

Stewart who attended Midsomer Norton Primary School and Somervale Comprehensive moved on to the Bristol Rovers Centre of Excellence before being offered a football scholarship at Millfield. He has just completed his A levels in Maths, PE and Accountancy but is hoping to earn a professional contract with a league club.

Stewart begins a two week trial with Southend United on July 20 and is waiting for confirmation of trial dates from a clutch of other clubs in both England and Scotland.
