Timsbury Athletic’s football fortunes continue to mirror that of the November weather and their 4-3 defeat away to St George Easton in Gordano in the Somerset County League Premier Division means that they now have the unenviable record of 12 straight league losses. As in so many games Timsbury more than competed and looked on course for a morale boosting result only to once again concede late goals.
The visitors made a bright start and were ahead after ten minutes with a goal from Dean Paget. They held the advantage for 20 minutes but then two goals in as many minutes turned the game around and the home side went in at half-time 2-1 in front.
Timsbury began the second half as they had the first and were soon on level terms. Adam Pugsley was brought down in the box and Chris Brimble converted the spot-kick. It got even better for the visitors soon after when Russ Davies scored to make it 3-2 and at this juncture Timsbury looked well capable of returning with the spoils. However an unfortunate own goal from Jake Riddle then levelled the scores and with just five minutes left some slack marking gave St George the opportunity to steal all three points.
A minute’s silence was held before start of the match between lowly Timsbury Athletic Reserves and high flying Frome Collegians in the Somerset County League Division 2 East as a mark of respect for Timsbury’s legendary keeper Mike Nicholls who played for the club during the 70s & 80s and who sadly passed away recently. As a tribute to Mike a floral tribute in the form of a Manchester Utd shirt had been placed in the goalmouth by his family.
The game was played in dreadful weather conditions with the visitors eventually winning 3-1. Mark Hancock got the Timsbury goal.
Things don’t get any easier for Timsbury who this week entertain second in the table Bridgwater Town Reserves. The Reserves are away to Dundry Athletic who their first team recently beat in the Somerset Senior Cup.
