Timsbury Athletic conceded two late goals to make their long trek to Taunton Blackbrook in the Somerset County League Premier Division a pointless excursion. For much of the game Timsbury had dealt well with a potent attacking force which had scored four goals against them at Timsbury and the final result was desperately disappointing.
The home side dominated affairs for the first 20 minutes but the Timsbury rearguard held firm and gradually the visitors came into the match. Indeed it was Timsbury who got the ball in the net but the effort by Alex Young was disallowed as Russ Davies was adjudged to have impeded the home keeper.
The game remained goalless at the interval but 10 minutes into the second half Timsbury went ahead. Again the Taunton Blackbrook keeper dropped the ball under pressure but this time the tap-in by Joe Sparey was allowed to stand. The goal gave the visitors just the boost they needed and they took the game to the home side forcing a number of half-chances with Mark Hancock bringing out a good save from the home keeper. The second goal remained elusive, however, and Timsbury were to pay the penalty. With 10 minutes to go a goalmouth scramble following a corner saw Taunton equalize and two minutes later another melee saw the home side grab the winner.
Timsbury player/manager Aaron Dix said, “Before the game I would have been happy with a point but after the way we played I felt we deserved to win. To eventually lose after having so many chances to seal the game was a cruel blow”.
On Saturday the club have a double bill with Cutters Friday with the first team at home to the Bristol side and the Reserves who lost 5-0 at home to Welton Rovers Reserves last week traveling to meet the Cutters’ second string.
