Timsbury 2 Watchet 1

Timsbury Athletic maintained their steady climb away from the foot of the Somerset County League Premier Division with a last gasp victory at home to mid-table Watchet Town.  The home side who continue to look a much more compact and settled unit gained revenge for a heavy 5-1 defeat at Watchet earlier in the season.

Timsbury could not have got off to a worse start. Within 7 minutes of the kick-off Aaron Deeks collected a fine through ball from Lawrence Monaghan and buried his shot past Neil Hucker with the most clinical of finishes.  At the other end Joe Sparey headed just over from a Ben Hancock free-kick and Lloyd Davies was also too high after being set up by Matt Doughty.   As the half progressed Watchet came on strongly and they could have gone further ahead when  Tayler Maddock shot into the side-netting and right on the interval Jamie Milton headed on to the Timsbury crossbar.

Within a minute of the re-start Timsbury were level.  Doughty surprised keeper Adam Bishop with a fine long range shot which went into the net via the bar.  The home side buoyed by their success put on the pressure but failed to create many clear chances and it was Watchet who went closest to regaining the lead.  Hucker made an instinctive save from skipper Lee Nunn’s goalbound header but a melee ensued which Timsbury were lucky to clear.

Timsbury then brought on Steve Colliver for Sparey and manager Sam Gurner for Russ Davies and it proved a master stroke. With just three minutes of normal time remaining Doughty raced clear down the left and pulled the ball  back for Gurner who just managed to hook the ball in.

Timsbury now face two tricky away games against league leaders Frome Town Reserves and Cutters Friday but the spirit in the camp is good.

Timsbury Reserves who are struggling near the foot of the Somerset County League Division 2 East came close to a shock away win over second placed Stockwood Green Reserves but leading with ten minutes left they eventually went down 3-2.  Mark Hancock and George Brooks scored for Timsbury.
