Timsbury Athletic 1 Burnham United 3

Timsbury Athletic are still searching for their first win this season in the Somerset County Premier League but they were in sight of a hard earned point against their seaside opponents when two late goals settled the issue…

The home side had ridden their luck but deserved something for the big effort put in throughout the afternoon although the way things have gone this year there was a certain inevitability about the final twist.

Steve Baker expertly headed past Nick Slack in the Burnham goal after just 10 minutes

The home side got off to the perfect start. Tony Pow was just too high with a free-kick before floating over a centre that Steve Baker expertly headed past Nick Slack in the Burnham goal after just 10 minutes. The visitors hit back strongly and equalized in the 20th minute. Dean was brought down in the box by Matt Brooks and Elliott Lamb made no mistake from the penalty spot.

In the second half the visitors raised their game but proceeded to miss a host of good chances. Paul Irvine was especially wasteful shooting over the top with the goal at his mercy, Dean ballooned the ball over the bar after some slick set-up play and Jason Kilduff missed an absolute sitter. Then with five minutes left Kilduff again found himself unmarked in front of goal and this time he buried it past keeper Wayne Gay. Timsbury almost grabbed an equalizer when a Matt Doughty header was saved at the foot of the post by Slack but right on time player/manager Aaron Dix was penalised for handball in the box and Lamb stepped up to convert his second penalty of the afternoon.

Timsbury Reserves gained their first point of the season in a 2-2 draw away to Shepton Mallet Reserves in the Somerset County League Division 2 East. Alex Young and Mark Hancock were the Timsbury scorers.
