A chanceless innings of 113 from Timsbury skipper Mark Sage was not enough to prevent his side from going down to a 24 run defeat away to Claverham in the West of England Premier League (Bristol and North Somerset ). The superb knock which included 13 fours and 3 sixes deserved to win the game but the home total of 249-4 proved a daunting one and despite an excellent 94 run partnership for the sixth wicket with vice-captain Greg Passingham who also batted fluently and finished unbeaten on 48 Timsbury closed on 225-7.
Earlier Timsbury had struggled to contain the home side and once again did themselves no favours by bowling a total of 25 wides. Former Somerset all-rounder Paul Bird top-scored with 60 before being stumped by Timsbury’s promising young wicketkeeper Matt Brinkworth off the bowling of Steve Clothier who was the visitors’ most successful bowler with 2-40. Scorecard
There was revenge in the second eleven fixture at Timsbury where a scintillating innings of 96 not out from vice-captain Paul Cracknell carried the home side to a thrilling one wicket win over Claverham’s second string. Chasing the visitors’ 45 over total of 214-4 he came to the crease with Timsbury well behind the run rate required but undeterred he hit five huge sixes, one of which found its way along North Road and eight fours as the Claverham attack was taken apart. Cracknell received meaningful support along the way from Nathan Hawkins, Henry Steeds and Steve Teall but there was just four balls and one wicket remaining when the victory post was passed. Earlier opener Ellis Grubb had continued his good early season form with a solid knock of 41. Scorecard
Timsbury A continued their good start to their new life in the North Somerset League Division 5 with a 5 wicket away win against Avonside in a high scoring game at Fry’s ground.. Rob Clothier was the pick of the Timsbury bowlers with 4-42 as Avonside made 215-8 from their 40 overs. He then completed a fine match by smashing a quickfire 75 and together with Declan Murphy (50 not out) saw Timsbury home.
A young Timsbury B side were beaten by 6 wickets at home to Whitchurch in the Bristol and District A XI league Division 2. Put in to bat Timsbury recovered from 62-8 to make 116 thanks mainly to Ashley Swain who made 48 not out. The Whitchurch innings subsided to 24-4 aided by two sharp run outs but Timsbury were unable to break the fifth wicket partnership which saw the visitors home.
