Thursday:-
Timsbury gave unbeaten Premier One side Weston-Super-Mare an almighty scare before losing by four wickets off the fourth ball of the final over in the second round of the Somerset Senior Cup. The home side who won the competition last season restricted Timsbury to 79 from their 20 overs but on a poor pitch the chase was no mere formality and Weston endured a number of anxious moments before passing the winning post.
Timsbury skipper Mark Sage held the Timsbury innings together with a fine knock of 35 and he received good support from Dave Pippett who made 20. Robin Dsouza, Ashley Allen and Tom Main each took two wickets. Neil Hucker then removed the dangerous Dsouza early courtesy of a fine catch by Andrew Girvan in the deep and with Greg Passingham bowling his five overs of spin for just 13 runs the home side found the going tough. The introduction of Steve Clothier then made things even harder but Weston skipper John Williams held the reply together with a vital knock of 27 and despite outstanding figures of 4-15 from Clothier it was not quite enough.
Saturday:-
With seven games of the new league season behind them Timsbury are still searching for their first win of the campaign after comprehensively losing at home to Nailsea by nine wickets in the West of England Premier League (Bristol and North Somerset ).
Things had all begun so encouragingly for Timsbury. Despite the early loss of Dave Pippett they progressed at a run a ball to reach 120-2 after 20 overs with skipper Mark Sage looking in prime form. Two runs later, however, he was caught at point for a fluent 62 and thereafter the home side struggled to build on their early ascendancy. Jez Hare and Jerry Thompson both hit 27 but no-one was able to play the dominant innings to take Timsbury past the 200 mark and their final score of 195-8 was a solid effort but by no means insurmountable. Russell Baker was Nailsea’s best bowler with 5-52.
Baker then opened the batting for the visitors with Danny Woollard and their start was in direct contrast to Timsbury’s. Steve Clothier and Mark Smith kept them in check with some economical bowling and after 15 overs they had just 38 on the board. The breakthrough, however, would not come and gradually the batsmen began to take control. Despite Sage changing the bowlers around Woollard and Baker progressed with ruthless efficiency and took their stand to 189 before Clothier had Woollard caught behind by Matt Brinkworth for 95. Baker capped an outstanding individual performance with 84 not out as Timsbury were again left to lick their wounds. Scorecard
A poor bowling and fielding effort cost Timsbury 2nd XI dearly in their away game with Nailsea seconds and despite posting a total of 185-8 were eventually well beaten by eight wickets. It was a blow to Timsbury whose excellent start to the season had seen them lying in a healthy second place.
After electing to bat first Timsbury’s young side performed well. Callum Stewart led the way making 37 before being run out, Nathan Hawkins contributed 31 and Declan Murphy made 22. Mike Rowcliffe and Ian Sherreard both took three wickets for the home side.
In contrast to recent weeks Timsbury’s work in the field was distinctly lacklustre. Opener Simon Hopkinson carried his bat for 61 and Chris Gale made 53 as Nailsea raced to victory with over 14 overs to spare. Scorecard
In a week when unavailabilities tested Timsbury’s resources to the full their young fourth team found Bitton A just too strong at Cadbury Heath and they were beaten by nine wickets in the Bristol and District League A XI Division 2. After being put into bat Timsbury were dismissed for just 61 with opener Kelvin Hancock contributing almost a third of the runs with his 19. Oaten and Smith both took three wickets for the home side.
Timsbury were able to give six of their young bowlers a spell when Bitton replied but an unbeaten innings of 40 from Elliott saw the Bristol side to a quick victory.
This week Timsbury travel to Hambrook with the seconds entertaining the opponents’ second team.
