Amanda Cranston drew attention to the Comment the Traffic Group have entered on the B&NES Planning website regarding the proposed Development at Wheelers Yard

Stefan Chivers provided some input on those items in the Strategy document which he thought were viable. These were limited mainly to what might be possible with regard to footpath improvement. It was agreed that the residents of the Cheshire Home would be consulted as to which footpaths they could identify as requiring mobility improvements and this information passed to the Parish Council.

Stefan Chivers said he would look at the possibility of signage for the crossroads at Hayeswood Road/North Road as this doesn’t exist at the present time.

B&NES will not install mirrors on the public highway and therefore these at the North Road/South Road and Lansdown View/North Road junctions were impossible.

He also considered the Chapel Walk exit onto North Road to be an area which could not be improved without encroaching into the road, making it narrower at Chapel Walk which he considered would have an adverse effect on the traffic flow.

He will approach B&NES Highways Maintenance with a view to remedying the defaced village sign at Meadgate.  The Parish Council agreed that there was an over-abundance of other signs springing up at Meadgate which detracted from the village sign and they would address this locally.

The School Coach afternoon drop off at the Gus and Crook is dangerous as the children disembark on the junction  with South Road. PC Peard will contact the coach company and ask them to drop the children at a safer point.

The Parish Council will approach B&NES Garden Waste Collectors and ask for collection in North Road to be  made outside peek school hours in the mornings.

They also said that the Coop had been helpful in rearranging deliveries outside of busy times, but that McColls  had failed to respond to any approaches and continued to deliver as and when they wished.

The Police will continue to monitor pavement parking and discourage this so far as possible. The Parish will address overhanging vegetation where possible on an ongoing basis. A variety of other safety issues were discussed and none were considered by B&NES to have a satisfactory remedy.

Stefan Chivers, once the footpaths have been identified to him, will consider remedial work. He pointed out however that there was little, if any, finance available for this.

Amanda Cranston said she would be approaching Doug Deacon to apply for £5,000 from the B&NES shortfall set aside money of which there is apparently still £1.25m unallocated, on the basis that this might be ring-fenced for road safety improvements where possible.
