Timsbury Win!!

It was ninth time lucky for Timsbury who at last broke their winless run in the in the West of England Premier League (Bristol and North Somerset ) with a convincing seven wicket success away to Shirehampton. Having dismissed the home side for just 126 skipper Mark Sage and Dave Pippett made sure there was to be no slip-up with an opening partnership of 83.

A fine spell of bowling from Neil Hucker set Timsbury on their way. Opening the bowling he took advantage of a helpful pitch to record figures of 4-23 from 13 accurate overs. The home side threatened a recovery but then Jerry Thompson was introduced into the attack for his first bowl of the season and the former Wiltshire all-rounder rolled back the years to polish off the Shirehampton innings with 4-19.

Sage and Pippett who had put on 142 for the first wicket the previous week then continued where they had left off and when Pippett who gets married on Friday and who was playing his last game for three weeks was eventually out for 39 the game was as good as won. Darren Wilkins and Greg Passingham both perished in the chase but Sage hit his third half-century in consecutive weeks to finish 59 not out . Score card

Timsbury 2nd XI moved up to second place in the second eleven section with another comprehensive win at home to Shirehampton on Sunday. It was a performance that once again demonstrated the all-round strength of the team with no outstanding individuals but with everyone making notable contributions.

After being put in to bat the home side repaid the invitation by plundering 248 runs losing their final wicket in the last of the 45 overs. For the second week running Callum Stewart was dismissed just short of his half-century for 48 while Declan Murphy’s dream season continues with another important knock of 43 sharing in an excellent sixth wicket stand of 56 with Andrew Girvan whose impressive 36 was by far his best innings of the season. Lusty hitting from Ron Clothier (29) and Paul Cracknell (22) made it a hard afternoon in the field for the Bristol side whose best bowling return came from Sam Phipps (4-53).

Shirehampton were never in the hunt. Skipper Steve Teall and Ian Ettle made early inroads into the visitors reply and after subsiding to 67-7 it needed a late flourish from the tailenders to take them to 150 with their final wicket falling in the last over. Teall who again led the team well finished with 5-47, Ettle had 3-35 and there was a wicket each for Girvan and Aaron Stewart who made a promising debut for the seconds. Score Card
