Water Water Everywhere!

Residents in North Road, Timsbury awoke on Saturday morning to discover the road was a raging torrent. ( Perhaps a little editorial exaggeration!!) It was found that a water main had burst just outside the “Seven Stars” public house. The first indication that anything was wrong was the extremely low water pressure in most properties east of “The Stars” but in the worst cases there was no water at all.

Bristol Water plc was alerted and they diverted one of their contractors (Daniel Contractors Ltd) to the scene form a less pressing emergency. The first thoughts were that traffic lights would be required but one of the personnel on the contractors van was a former local resident Chris Walters who, when he was told the location, said that lights would be no use and that the road would have to be closed. It took a while to organise the closure (luckily the layout of Timsbury allows for diversions which would only add a few hundred yards to a journey). At about 10am the road was closed and by then the water had been turned off to allow work to begin. The controlling stop cock was situated at the south end of Lippiatt Lane which meant that most properties east of that point would be cut off.

Repair work continued apace and by 2pm the supply was restored and people could get back to flushing the loos and having a cup of tea!! However. the restoration of supply was not the end of the matter as the road had to be made good and it was not until 5pm that the road was reopened!
